What do I wear?
Choosing the right outfits can make a huge difference in how your photos look and feel. Here are some simple tips to help your family look coordinated, comfortable, and beautifully timeless in your images.
Coordinate, Don’t Match
Instead of identical outfits, aim for a coordinated color palette. Choose 2–3 main colors and build everyone’s outfits around those tones.
Soft neutrals like cream, taupe, gray, navy, olive, and muted earth tones photograph especially well and feel effortless.
Keep It Timeless
Avoid bold logos or busy graphics. Clean, classic pieces give your photos a timeless look you’ll love for years.
Think textured knits, simple patterns, or layering pieces that add depth without distraction.
Add Layers & Textures
Cardigans, scarves, denim jackets, sweaters, and vests all add visual interest and dimension.
Textures like linen, chunky knits, waffle fabric, denim, and corduroy look especially great on camera (and will keep you warm if we have a fall/winter outdoor session).
Think About the Setting
-
Outdoor Sessions: Earthy, warm, or jewel-toned palettes complement natural landscapes. Deep greens, cranberry, cream, and navy photograph beautifully.
-
In-Home Sessions: Choose colors that fit the tones of your home—soft neutrals or cozy, casual outfits work wonderfully.
Most Important: Be Yourself
Wear clothes that feel like YOU. If you feel comfortable and confident, it will shine through in your images.
